Podcast Showcase – Learn Growth Marketing

September 23, 2020

Welcome to the Podcast Showcase series. In each post, we’ll bring you one featured podcast, and give a short overview about the people behind the microphone, the process they use to podcast efficiently, share tips and recommended tools used for the podcasts and more. We’ll share images of their podcast equipment or setup, and links to their podcast websites and social media profiles. The Podcast Showcase series is brought to you by Podcastpage.io – The Podcast Website Builder.

Today we are interviewing Nicholas Scalice from the Learn Growth Marketing podcast:

Learn Growth Marketing Podcast

What is your podcast all about?

Learn Growth Marketing is all about providing actionable growth marketing tips in 20 minutes or less.

Every week, I cover one new marketing tactic, such as how to get more engagement on LinkedIn, or how to turn your website visitors into leads and customers.

The show is perfect for any marketers, entrepreneurs, and consultants who want to learn what’s working with growth marketing in just a few minutes.

It’s meant to compliment my newsletter, GrowthMarketer Weekly.

Tell us about your podcasting background/experience.

I’ve been podcasting since 2015, and my first (much larger) show is called Growth Marketing Toolbox. It has a nice following and I’ve done over 200 episodes so far, and interviewed some amazing folks such as Seth Godin. So I’m not new to the podcast game.

I decided to launch this new podcast series called Learn Growth Marketing, because I saw a need for a shorter-format show, that isn’t interview-based, and focuses more on marketing strategies in a way that is beginner-friendly.

Podcasting has been the single best way I’ve built an audience over the last 5 years. It has helped me launch multiple courses, and attracted countless clients for my agency.

And I love to help others get started with podcasting as well, since it’s been so fruitful for me.

What podcasting tools are you using?
  1. Podcast host – Buzzsprout
  2. Software – Audio Hijack / Descript
  3. Microphone – Blue Yeti
  4. Website builder – Podcastpage.io
How do you plan or prepare each episode?

For Learn Growth Marketing, I keep things really simple.

I usually start with a blog post that I’ve written on my blog and simply repurpose it for the podcast. I don’t narrate it word-for-word, but rather try to improvise and adapt it to an audio format by adding and subtracting as needed. My goal is that if you read the blog post, you’ll still get value from the podcast episode, and vice versa.

And I always try to keep the episode length under 20 minutes.

Once the recording is done, I edit it using Descript, which is an amazing “visual editor” for audio. Then I upload everything to Buzzsprout along with my notes.

The BEST part of the process is that I don’t even have to think about my podcast show notes page or website, since Podcastpage.io takes care of that automatically. Gone are the days of creating new WordPress blog posts for each episode. It’s magic!

Any tips for fellow podcasters?

My biggest piece of advice is not to overcomplicate things! I made this mistake too many times before. You don’t need the perfect mic or the perfect software. Just start with the basics. For your website, you can’t go wrong with Podcastpage.io, since it does most of the heavy lifting for you.

Anything else you want to add?

Find something you love to talk about! If making each episode feels like a chore, you won’t be consistent with your episodes, and consistency is key.
